NEW DELHI: Star batter Virat Kohli on Thursday underwent scans for an 'unspecified' injury, Australian daily Sydney Morning Herald reported, raising fresh concerns for India ahead of the upcoming Border–Gavaskar Trophy.

The nature of Kohli’s injury remains unclear, but it did not prevent the star India batter from featuring in an intra-squad simulation match on Friday, which should allay some of the fears for India around their premier batter.

Kohli scored 15 in the simulation game where KL Rahul was also struck on the elbow and walked off the field.

The Indian team has been gearing up for the blockbuster series that begins on November 22 in Perth.

The visitors have been training at the WACA ground since Wednesday.

Kohli has been going through a prolonged lean patch as his last Test century came against the West Indies at Port of Spain in July 2023.

In the recent home debacle against New Zealand, he scored a single fifty and had four single-digit scores in six matches. The 36-year-old batting icon has just two fifties in last 14 Test innings.

Across the last 60 innings, Kohli has averaged a modest 31.68 with just two hundreds. His average in 2024 is a meager 22.72 from six Tests.

However, Kohli averages a stunning 54 in Australia across four tours since 2012-13.
