India's "timid" and "defensive" batting approach in their second innings allowed England to make a comeback in the rescheduled fifth Test on the fourth day, reckons former chief coach Ravi Shastri. Leading by 132 runs, India's second innings folded for 245. Chasing 378, England are now just 119 runs away from the victory target.
England's approach was brilliant yet again! The openers scored at a very brisk rate and put up 100 in no time. England then lost three in quick time but Root and Bairstow have continued their excellent form and have forged another outstanding stand which could well be a match-winning one. The day has well and truly belonged to them! First, their bowlers did brilliantly to not let India bat them out of the game, and then it was their batting that arrived to the fore.
Yet another terrific show by England in the 4th innings of a game and they have put themselves into a real position to actually win it. They scored 152 runs in the last session in just 34 overs and now need just 119 runs to win!
Still, a lot to play for though but for now, it is England who are on top. Do join us for what promises to be an exciting 5th Day. The action begins at 3 pm IST (9.30 am GMT) but as always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
India, like New Zealand, failed to grab their opportunities. They had the chance of batting England out of the game but the shot selection by their batters could be questioned. Their bowlers, later on, found the going tough on a wicket that did not provide a lot of assistance. Bumrah was the pick but the rest failed to give any support. The first thing the visitors need to do is to break this stand and hope that opens the floodgates.
Jasprit Bumrah to Jonny Bairstow, Shorter one, outside off. Jonny Bairstow leaves it alone. That will be Stumps on Day 4!
Jasprit Bumrah to Joe Root, Pulls his length back and serves a shorter one, around middle. Joe Root pulls it towards deep square for a single. That brings up the 150-run stand between these two. What a terrific partnership this has been!
Jasprit Bumrah to Joe Root, Good-length delivery, tailing back in, around middle and leg. Joe Root flicks and finds the fielder at mid-wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah to Joe Root, Touch fuller, around the off pole. Joe Root defends it solidly off the front foot.
Jasprit Bumrah to Joe Root, Outside off this time, on a length. Joe Root taps it towards point.
Jasprit Bumrah to Jonny Bairstow, A length ball, angling in, on the pads. Jonny Bairstow tucks it towards square leg for a run.
