In a heart-rending post on his official Facebook page, pacer Rubel has revealed he is gutted after his team came so close to beating India in the final on Sunday night before they choked with India sealing a last-ball thriller.
After
Mustafizur Rehman's superb over, the 18th of the India innings, left them needing 34 off the final two, Bangladesh captain
Shakib Al Hasan handed the ball to Rubel to bowl the penultimate over. And Karthik was in the zone as he hammered a four and two sixes off his first three deliveries before finishing the over with another boundary to plunder 22 from the over.
In the 20th over, bowled by
Soumya Sarkar, India needed 12 and by the time five balls were bowled, he had done well to allow seven runs off them. However, Karthik unfurled a flat six over extra cover to break Bangladeshi hearts with Indian team breaking into wild celebrations after sealing a memorable win.
After the heart-breaking loss, Rubel wrote, " I have been feeling depressed after the match. We never thought that we will come so close to winning the match and then lose it. I apologize to everyone. Please forgive us."
Karthik remained unbeaten on 29 off just eight deliveries as India extended their unbeaten record against Bangladesh to eight matches.
