IND vs ENG Lord's Test: Mohammed Siraj leaves ‘Home of Cricket' buzzing with his aggression
London: Mohammed Siraj has made a habit of unsettling the Lord’s crowd. Conservative spectators here, proud of the tradition of the gentleman’s game, have been frowning upon the pacer’s relentless, in-your-face aggression since Saturday evening, when he had a go at Zak Crawley for the England opener’s delaying antics. This is not the first time Siraj has let himself loose at Lord’s. His one-on-one duel with James Anderson in 2021 is still being talked about. Virat Kohli’s ‘givethem-60-overs-of-hell’ headlined India’s memorable win at that time. Siraj had then been at the forefront of making things excruciatingly tough for England.

On Sunday morning, India again needed that aggressive side of Siraj’s character to resurface. This is a generation of Indian cricketers who are fearless and always up for a fight. Siraj took it on himself to fuel the entire team. He was about giving England hell as India took big strides towards forcing a result in their favour. Siraj was doing more than just complementing Jasprit Bumrah’s usual probing spell. When he did get Ben Duckett to play a false shot for the first wicket of the day at mid-on, the expected war cry was followed by a shoulder nudge with Duckett.
Immediately, the talk around Lord’s was that Siraj deserved to be penalised for the act. The host broadcasters played out multiple replays that showed Siraj was walking straight lines and Duckett was the one who changed track to walk into Siraj. Was Siraj behaving in the right way? The debate got louder.
Driven by the overwhelming desire to pull India ahead, the fast bowler was vocal and vibrant and also immaculate.
He kept running in hard, hit the right lines and lengths, got the ball to do something and stayed in the face of England. His emotions compelled captain Shubman Gill to lose a review while challenging an LBW decision. Siraj made amends with another plea to Gill for a DRS after rapping Ollie Pope on the pads. As the giant screen showed three reds, Siraj got the entire ground buzzing again. Siraj bowled through the day, beating both edges of the English batters. He made his frustration obvious but never let that become the dominating emotion.
On Sunday, when most walked in anticipating another day of slow burn, Siraj injected adrenaline into the game.
