Gill, who took over as India’s Test captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, has hit the ground running. In the second Test at Edgbaston, the 25-year-old scored a magnificent double century in the first innings and followed it up with a composed hundred in the second, finishing with 269 runs.
He also impressed with his calm leadership, clever field placements, and support for his bowlers during critical phases of the game. With two Tests done and the series level at 1-1, Gill has already made his mark as a captain.
Yuvraj, who mentored Gill during his early cricketing journey in Punjab, has closely followed the youngster’s progress. His recent comments reflect the joy of seeing a talented player step into a leadership role and deliver under pressure.
The third Test begins on July 10 at Lord’s, with India riding high on confidence.
