Gautam Gambhir, Jasprit Bumrah’s epic reaction goes viral after Shubman Gill wins first toss
Shubman Gill celebrated his first Test toss victory as India’s captain on Friday, breaking a streak of six consecutive losses, in the second Test against the West Indies in New Delhi. After winning the toss, opted to bat first, retaining the same playing XI that had dominated the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.
The moment sparked joyous celebrations within the team. Coach Gautam Gambhir, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja shared light-hearted banter about the long-awaited toss win. As Gill walked back to his teammates, someone shouted, “Well done, Gill!” Gambhir joked that Jasprit Bumrah had already marked his run-up, expecting yet another lost toss. Bumrah added, “Miyan (Siraj) and I, both,” prompting laughter from the squad.

Reflecting on the streak, Gill said, “Out of the seven Tests, we got what we wanted in four of them. We wanted to bowl in the previous match, and we got to bowl. Now, batting in this one. Toss se farak nahi hai, jo chaiye wo milega” (The toss doesn’t matter; we’ll get what we want), showing his relaxed approach despite the leadership role.
India made the most of the decision on day one, posting an imposing 318/2 in 90 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 173, while Sai Sudharsan contributed a career-best 87, giving India a strong platform.
Speaking about the match and his captaincy, Gill said, “The wicket looks good; we want to pile on the runs. Consistency is key — to repeat and maintain performances. Captaincy hasn’t changed me much; there are more responsibilities now, and I like that. Very exciting future for me.”
