India Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Announcement Live Updates: Radha Yadav and the battle for limited spots

The uncertainty surrounding several experienced names has added another fascinating layer to the selection discussion. Radha Yadav’s situation, in particular, has generated debate because of her strong all-round performances despite her absence from India’s T20I setup after the England series last year.

Radha was instrumental in India’s previous success in England, taking six wickets during a T20I series victory. Since then, she has continued to excel domestically and in franchise cricket. During RCB’s victorious WPL 2026 campaign, she contributed useful runs and maintained her value as a versatile player.

Her performances for India A and West Zone were even more impressive, where she produced significant runs and wickets across tournaments. Despite these achievements, competition remains intense, with players like Sneh Rana and G Kamalini also fighting for limited spots.

The selectors now face a difficult decision between rewarding current domestic form and maintaining continuity with players who have already been part of the international setup.

India Women's T20 World Cup Squad 2026 Live: Pace bowling options and injury concerns

Fast bowling options and injury concerns are also expected to play a major role in shaping the final squad composition. Amanjot Kaur’s likely absence due to a back injury has potentially opened the door for younger pace bowlers to make a late push for selection.

Among the names attracting attention is Nandni Sharma, who impressed during WPL 2026 with Delhi Capitals through her aggressive pace and disciplined performances.

Kashvee Gautam, who debuted during the South Africa tour, is another player selectors may seriously consider if India opts for additional seam options for English conditions. Reports suggest the selectors may expand the squad for the pre-World Cup T20I series against England from the standard 15 to 17 or 18 players, allowing more experimentation before the main tournament begins.

Such a move could benefit fringe players like Vaishnavi Sharma and other developing talents.

The England tour will therefore serve as both preparation and a final audition for players hoping to cement their place in India’s World Cup plans.

India Women's T20 World Cup Squad 2026 Live: Young players push for World Cup selection

One of the most closely watched aspects of the selection meeting will be how the management evaluates recent experiments carried out during the South Africa tour.

The series saw extensive rotation, with several players receiving opportunities while senior figures like vice-captain Smriti Mandhana were rested. Young batting all-rounder Anushka Sharma and left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma both impressed after receiving their debut caps, while experienced finisher Bharti Fulmali returned to the setup after a long absence and showed signs of regaining her touch. Their performances have created fresh competition for places in the 15-member World Cup squad.

The selectors, led by Amita Sharma, now face the challenge of balancing experience with emerging talent. England’s own strategy of including multiple left-arm spinners in their plans may also influence India’s thinking, particularly regarding Vaishnavi’s inclusion.

The willingness to experiment in recent months suggests India is aiming to build a flexible squad capable of adapting quickly to English conditions and varied match situations.

India Women's T20 World Cup Squad 2026 Live: India’s search for a maiden T20 World Cup title

As India prepares to announce its squad for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, the spotlight is firmly on the selection committee and the difficult choices ahead.

The tournament, set to be played in England from June 12 to July 5, represents another major opportunity for India to secure its maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Expectations are naturally high after Harmanpreet Kaur’s side captured the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup at home, ending a long wait for a global trophy in senior women’s cricket. However, India’s T20 journey has been far less consistent, with flashes of brilliance mixed with frustrating setbacks.

Recent series victories over Sri Lanka, England, and Australia showcased the team’s growing confidence and adaptability, but the heavy 4-1 defeat in South Africa exposed weaknesses, particularly in the bowling department. Saturday’s announcement is therefore expected to define not only the squad but also India’s broader ambitions in the shortest format.

India Women's T20 World Cup Squad 2026 Live: Hello and welcome!

Hello and welcome to the live updates of India’s squad announcement for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.

India Women's T20 World Cup Squad 2026 Highlights: India have announced their squads for the upcoming England tour and the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, with a few notable selection calls grabbing attention. The biggest talking point was the inclusion of uncapped pacer Nandini Sharma and the return of wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia in the 15-member squad for the marquee ICC event in England and Wales, starting June 12.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain, India have largely retained the core of the side that has featured regularly in recent months. Experienced names such as Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh continue to form the backbone of the squad.

However, selectors made a surprise call by leaving out Pratika Rawal from the T20 World Cup setup despite her strong performances in domestic cricket. The youngster has instead been picked for the one-off Test against England at Lord’s from July 10 to 13, suggesting the team management sees her as a longer-format prospect at present.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Amanjot Kaur was unavailable for selection due to injury, affecting India’s pace-bowling options ahead of the global event.

Nandini’s inclusion comes after an impressive Women’s Premier League season with Delhi Capitals Women, where the medium pacer claimed 17 wickets in 10 matches. She was also part of India’s squad for the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament in Bangkok earlier this year.

The selected T20 World Cup squad will also feature in the three-match T20I series against England beginning May 28, which will serve as crucial preparation ahead of the ICC tournament.
