MI vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2026: Ryan Rickelton's ton goes in vain as Head, Klaasen power SRH to six-wicket win over MI

MI vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a stunning six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, chasing down a massive 244-run target in just 18.4 overs. The chase was powered by explosive knocks from Travis Head (76), Abhishek Sharma (45), and Heinrich Klaasen (65)*, who ensured SRH maintained control despite a brief middle-order wobble.

SRH got off to a flying start, racing to 92/0 in the powerplay, with Head smashing a 20-ball fifty. Mumbai briefly fought back through Ghazanfar and Hardik Pandya, but Klaasen’s aggressive finish sealed the chase comfortably.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians had posted a formidable 243/5, led by Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten 123, the fastest century for MI, and Will Jacks’ 46. However, their bowlers failed to contain SRH’s relentless batting, as the visitors completed one of the most remarkable chases of IPL 2026.

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: Pat Cummins lauds youngsters 'fearless approach'
Pat Cummins, the SRH skipper, praised his players for their fearless approach and urged them to continue playing in the same positive manner.

"When the pitch is good, they (openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head) have so many different shots. Glad I am not bowling to them," he said, adding that the youngsters in the side have a "super aggressive." approach.

"They have a fearless attitude." he added.

Player of the Match Heinrich Klaasen, who walked in at a crucial stage after Sunrisers Hyderabad lost a couple of quick wickets and went on to play a match-winning knock, said he took his chances early against a quality Mumbai Indians attack.

"Big gap at cow corner so had to take a risk early. Wicket was good. They (MI) had a quality bowling attack, so had to take a chance and see if we could make light work of it.

"(Abhishek and Head) put the bowlers under pressure. If they are going (at a brisk rate), it makes your job easier," he said. PTI

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: This season, we don't have much options: MI skipper Hardik Pandya
Skipper Hardik Pandya admitted that his bowling resources are stretched but stressed the need to find solutions under pressure, conceding that Mumbai Indians are falling short of their own high standards this season after a six-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL match on Wednesday.

Despite piling up a mammoth 243 for 5, Mumbai Indians still ended up on the losing side as Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target with eight deliveries to spare, even as their ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah endured an off day, conceding 54 runs in his four overs and going wicketless.

The loss left Mumbai Indians languishing on four points from eight games, while Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to third spot with 12 points from nine matches.

"I think this season we don't have much option, we really need to see what all differences we can do. I won't put my bowlers under the bus. I think as an overall unit, we have not been able to do what exactly Mumbai Indians stands for," said Pandya when asked how he plans to address his bowling attack after the bowlers failed to defend a strong total.

"We really need to see what all we need to work on," he added.

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: Cummins appreciated team effort
Pat Cummins admitted the chase looked tough initially but believed it was achievable given SRH’s strong batting lineup and the flat pitch. He praised the aggressive opening pair, calling them “scary” to bowl against, and highlighted the fearless mindset of young players, crediting the coaching staff for nurturing that confidence.
Cummins also acknowledged how the game has evolved, noting that totals once considered challenging are now routinely chased, forcing bowlers to reset expectations. Despite concerns about conceding runs, he backed his unit and singled out Eshan Malinga as a key contributor to SRH’s success this season.

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: Heinrich Klaasen win player of the match
''Not really, there was a big gap at the cow-cormer, so I had to take the risk early. They were bowling well, so I had to take a chance. The left shoulder gave me some issues last year and I'm unable to corner the cow-corner anymore, so they've feeded me on the off-side. It's always fun, sitting in the dug-out, you can see them putting the bowlers under pressure, scoring at 15s and 16s and when we get in, the rate drops under 10. We needed 11 or 10, he asked if he could go for it and I told him to finish the job (on Salil Arora). He's a really talented cricketer and will go far in the future,'' Klaasen after winning man of the match award.

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: SRH Hit 100th Win in Six-Hitting Fest
The IPL has seen a dramatic rise in high-scoring chases in recent years, with 33 successful 200+ chases since 2025 compared to just 15 between 2008 and 2022. Notably, most of these chases have been completed comfortably, with only five going into the final over and none beyond 19.3 overs.

The Wankhede clash continued the trend of batting dominance, featuring 32 sixes, the second-highest in a men’s T20 at the venue, just behind the 34-hit thriller in the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal between India and England.

The win also marked a milestone for Sunrisers Hyderabad, as they registered their 100th victory in IPL history.

IPL 2026, MI vs SRH: Hardik Pandya after the match
''(How difficult was it with the dew and the opening partnership SRH had?) I don't think dew played much of a role, just that they played some good shots, we bowled some bad balls, they got to a flyer. I think we did pull it back, but it was not enough. (Batting seems to have improved from previous games) Yes, I enjoyed, I had fun today on the ground. Yeah, I think 244, I think I'll back my bowlers to stop it, but some other day today we could not execute. Myself, really enjoyed bowling as well, barring the last three balls, but other than that, really enjoyed myself. (Missed chances in the field) Yes, I think it's been that kind of season. When you get a couple of chances, you grab them, that's when the luck and momentum changes. If you don't, it kind of hurts you, but it's still fine. All the boys tried really well. They gave everything, it did not work out. (How do you address the issues with bowling?) I think this season we don't have much option, we really need to see what all differences we can do. I won't put my bowlers under the bus. I think as an overall unit, we have not been able to do what exactly Mumbai Indians stands for. We really need to see what all we need to work on and it's fine. I think we have passionate owners, we have passionate support staff. We always figure out something. (The crowd keeps coming out to support) Yes, I think we have not given them much opportunity to back us. But yeah, they have been quite fantastic. They have been loyal. They have been fantastic. Yeah, sometimes it hurts when the opposition team comes and they start chanting their names. We need to entertain them more to make sure we get that love and trust from them,'' Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians had posted a formidable 243/5, led by Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten 123, the fastest century for MI, and Will Jacks’ 46. However, their bowlers failed to contain SRH’s relentless batting, as the visitors completed one of the most remarkable chases of IPL 2026.
23:57 (IST) Apr 29

The victorious skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad - Pat Cummins, on being asked whether he ever thought that 245 was a tough target, says that it is always a challenge at the start, but given the strength of their batting lineup and the quality of the pitch, he believed the target was definitely chaseable. On the opening duo of Abhishek and Head, he praises the openers for their fearless approach, noting that on a good surface with their range of shots, he says he is glad not to be bowling against them. Cummins is also highly impressed with the youngsters, highlighting that Salil Arora hasn’t had many opportunities this season but stood out during the pre-season. He credits the coaching staff for instilling a fearless attitude in the young players, adding that they may not even realise how good they are. On the concern as a skipper to concede a lot of runs he admits the challenge, saying the game has evolved significantly. Says targets that were once difficult, like 200, are now more achievable, with teams capable of chasing at 12 runs per over. He underlines the need for the bowling unit to reset expectations accordingly. On whether he has any sympathy for bowlers, Cummins says he has a lot, especially in these high-scoring games where there is often not much in it for them. He adds that even towards the end, executing a perfect delivery like a well-nailed yorker can still be the difference in a match. He also points out that really good bowlers continue to have a big impact, citing Eshan from their team as a key example. Cummins notes that Eshan has been a major reason behind their wins and currently holds the Purple Cap, stressing that bowlers can still play a huge role despite the challenges.

23:57 (IST) Apr 29

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Heinrich Klaasen wins the award for his match-winning 65* off 30. He says counter-attacking was not really the plan when he got out there, but with a big gap at cow corner, he felt the need to take the risk early. The wicket was good, and against a quality bowling attack, it was about taking chances and trying to make it easier. Mentions that his left shoulder has been troubling him a bit, so he is not as strong over cow corner, and has been working on other options. The slinger has been helping with plenty of balls, and that is coming along nicely. Klaasen plays it down when asked if he is feeling invincible, saying it is a new day every time and he prefers to stay humble. He jokes about hoping the baby does not keep him up, and adds that it is enjoyable to watch Abhishek and Head put bowlers under pressure, as it makes things easier for the rest. He reveals that Arora had asked if he could go for the shots when 11 were needed off 12, and he encouraged him to finish the game. He praises him for delivering on the big stage, adding that they see that ability regularly in the nets and it is great to see his progress.

Presentation time...

Time to hear from one half of 'Travishek' - Abhishek Sharma gets the Orange Cap and says that with teams consistently posting big totals, the onus on openers has only increased. He stressed the importance of maximising the Powerplay, adding that he and Travis Head aim to provide strong starts and set the tone early. Speaking about their partnership, he highlights Head’s calm presence and says their approach is simple - watch the ball, play accordingly, and keep communication clear under pressure while backing their instincts. On chasing targets, he mentions that they do not focus on numbers during the innings, only becoming aware of milestones when they appear on the big screen, preferring to stay in the moment and react naturally. He also credits the bowling unit, acknowledging how tough it is to bowl in this format. He praises the likes of Malinga and Pat Cummins for sticking to their plans, and shares that their consistency, along with strong leadership from the captain, has played a key role in the team's success.

23:44 (IST) Apr 29

The captain of Mumbai Indians - On being asked about how difficult was it bowling with the dew, Hardik says he doesn't think the dew played much of a role. Admits that they (SRH) some good shots and they (MI) bowled some bad balls. Accepts that they did pull things back a bit, but it wasn't just enough in the end. Hardik Pandya, on his bowling, says he enjoyed himself and had fun out in the field. He backs his bowlers to defend 244 on most days but acknowledges it was not MI's day, adding that he bowled well for the most part, barring the last three balls. On the dropped catches, Hardik says it has been that kind of a season and stresses that when chances come your way, you have to hold on to them or pay the price. He is quick to add that all the boys have tried hard. On whether they need to change their bowling attack, Hardik admits options are limited this season and does not want to single out any bowler. He says as an overall unit, MI have not been able to live up to what the franchise stands for, but expresses hope that they will figure things out, pointing to the passion of the owners and support staff. On the crowd support, Hardik says MI have not given their fans enough reason to back them, but calls them fantastic and loyal. He admits that they need to entertain the home crowd more to win back that love.

23:43 (IST) Apr 29

A night to forget for MI - It has been that kind of season for Mumbai Indians, and failing to defend 243 will hurt them badly. Their bowlers were taken apart in the Powerplay, with even Bumrah proving ineffective, and they simply had no answers to the onslaught. There were moments that could have turned things - Head edged one early but there was no appeal, and Naman Dhir put him down not once, not twice, but three times, costly errors against a player of his calibre. The only brief glimmer came when AM Ghazanfar struck twice in two balls, with Hardik Pandya adding another as they picked up three wickets in seven deliveries, but they just could not build on it. Boult grabbed one towards the end, but it was far too late, while Bumrah ended up giving away 54 runs in his four overs. The decision to bring in Shardul Thakur as the Impact Sub but not use him fully summed up a forgettable outing for MI.

23:42 (IST) Apr 29

Rickelton's record blitz - Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians posted the highest-ever IPL total while batting first at the Wankhede Stadium, highlighted by a stunning 123* off 55 from Ryan Rickelton. He brought up a 44-ball hundred, breaking the record of Sanath Jayasuriya for the fastest century by an MI batter, and was well supported by brisk cameos from Will Jacks at the top and Hardik Pandya at the death. Eshan Malinga was once again the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an excellent spell of 1/29, while Pat Cummins remained economical despite going wicketless. Hinge picked up a couple, with Sakib Hussain and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipping in with one each, and they did well to pull things back in the final four overs, giving their batters a fighting chance.

23:40 (IST) Apr 29

Smooth sailing for SRH - Chasing such a massive target, Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a strong Powerplay, and with Travishek at the top, that is almost a given. They did not disappoint, as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head went berserk, with the Aussie leading the charge while also riding his luck and making it count. The duo put on 92 in the Powerplay and did not slow down, continuing to find boundaries at will to add 129 for the opening stand, before a sudden wobble saw them slip to 133/3, losing all three of their top-order batters in quick succession. However, their most in-form batter this season, Heinrich Klaasen, ensured there were no further hiccups. He batted effortlessly, picking his spots and bringing up a 22-ball fifty, getting good support from Nitish Kumar Reddy first and then Salil Arora, who applied the finishing touches with an eye-catching cameo of 30* off just 10 balls to seal the deal with more than an over to spare.

23:38 (IST) Apr 29

Run-chase madness continues - Another day in IPL 2026, another massive chase! No total seems safe anymore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad made a mockery of this pursuit, pulling off the fourth-highest chase in the history of the league and the highest ever at the Wankhede. It also marks their fifth win in a row, along with their 100th victory in the IPL. It will be a tough pill to swallow for the Mumbai Indians, who slump to their fourth defeat at home this season, unfamiliar territory for them.

And according to Ian Bishop on air, this is the fourth-highest successful run chase in IPL history. Hardik slams the deck hard, on a length, on middle and leg. Salil Arora reads the length nicely, pivots on the back foot and short-arm jabs it comfortably over deep mid-wicket for a cracking six. The Orange Army marches on as they have ransacked this mammoth target like it's nothing. This is also SRH's 100th IPL win (shown on the on-air graphic). AM Ghazanfar to Heinrich Klaasen, SIX! FIFTY FOR KLAASEN! His 11th IPL half century and he has made this look ridiculously easy. Fuller from Ghazanfar, on middle and leg. Heinrich Klaasen backs away, makes room for himself and gloriously lofts it inside out over extra cover for a biggie.

MI vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2026: A fearless batting display from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a sensational six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians, chasing down a massive target of 244 in Match 41 of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium.

What initially appeared to be a daunting chase quickly turned into a masterclass in aggressive T20 batting.

SRH came out all guns blazing. Abhishek Sharma wasted no time, taking on Trent Boult and even smashing a six off Jasprit Bumrah early on. Travis Head joined the onslaught, tearing into Boult with a flurry of boundaries, including a slice over backward point that resulted in a six.

The duo raced to 43/0 in just three overs, maintaining relentless pressure. Mumbai’s attempt to introduce spin backfired, as the openers hammered Will Jacks for 19 runs in an over.

By the end of the powerplay, SRH had surged to a staggering 92/0, one of the highest totals conceded by Mumbai Indians in that phase.

Head was particularly destructive, bringing up a 20-ball half-century, while Abhishek kept pace with fluent strokeplay. At one stage, SRH were scoring at nearly 16 runs per over, with the chase firmly under control.

However, Mumbai briefly fought back when AM Ghazanfar struck twice in two balls, removing Abhishek (45) and Ishan Kishan (0). Hardik Pandya then dismissed Head (76), giving MI a glimmer of hope.

That hope was short-lived as Heinrich Klaasen took over. The South African batter launched a brutal counterattack, smashing boundaries at will and reaching a 22-ball fifty.

He remained unbeaten on 65, guiding SRH home comfortably, with Salil Arora (14 off 6)* applying the finishing touches as Hyderabad completed the chase in 18.4 overs.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians had posted a formidable 243/5, powered by a sensational 123 from Ryan Rickelton* and a rapid start from Will Jacks (46 off 22).

The opening pair laid a strong foundation, taking MI to 78/0 in the powerplay. Rickelton continued to dominate, reaching a 44-ball century, the fastest ever by a Mumbai Indians batter.

Despite contributions from Hardik Pandya (31 off 15), MI’s massive total proved insufficient against SRH’s relentless batting.

Mumbai Indians: 243/5 (Rickelton 123*, Jacks 46)
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 249/4 (Head 76, Klaasen 65*)
