Virat Kohli added another IPL record to his name on Sunday after completing 500 runs in IPL 2026 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’ match against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

With the milestone, Kohli registered his ninth season with 500 or more runs in the IPL, the most by any batter in the tournament’s history. Kohli now has 542 runs to his name in IPL 2026 so far.





David Warner and KL Rahul are next on the list with seven such seasons each, while Shikhar Dhawan has five.

Kohli also broke his own record for scoring the most runs against a single opponent in IPL history.

Before Sunday, his best tally against an opposition was 1,174 runs against Chennai Super Kings. During his 58-run knock against Punjab Kings, Kohli took his tally against them to 1,217 runs.

Kohli was dismissed on the final ball of the 15th over after scoring 58 off 37 balls. He was trapped by Yuzvendra Chahal.

The former RCB captain has again been among the team’s main performers this season as Bengaluru continue their push for a playoff spot.

Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first against RCB.

The match was also the 100th IPL game as captain for Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer.

RCB came into the match at the top of the points table with eight wins in 12 matches. A victory would strengthen their playoff chances further.

Punjab Kings, meanwhile, were looking to end a five-match losing streak.
