NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals entered the IPL Auction 2026 with a purse of Rs 21.80 crore and eight slots to fill, including five overseas positions, giving the franchise ample room to fine-tune a squad that already had a strong core in place. With a focus on adding firepower to both batting and bowling, Capitals struck a balance between proven internationals and emerging Indian talent during the mini auction.
The auction itself was dominated by big-ticket moves across franchises. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green grabbed headlines after being snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record Rs 25.20 crore, making him the third most expensive player in IPL history. Chennai Super Kings went all out for uncapped Indian youngsters Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, who became the highest-priced uncapped players in IPL auction history. KKR further strengthened their squad by securing Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 18 crore, a record fee for a Sri Lankan player at the auction. In all, the 10 franchises filled 77 vacant slots, splurging a combined Rs 215.45 crore.
Delhi Capitals were among the busier teams, making several notable additions. The franchise roped in Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi Dar for Rs 8.40 crore, one of the biggest gains of the auction, after he impressed franchises with his pace and potential. South African batter David Miller and England’s Ben Duckett were both picked up at their base price of Rs 2 crore, adding depth and experience to the middle order. Capitals also bolstered their overseas bowling resources by signing Lungi Ngidi and Kyle Jamieson for Rs 2 crore each, while Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka joined in for Rs 4 crore. India batter and former DC opener Prithvi Shaw, who initially went unsold twice, was later snapped up for Rs 75 lakh, providing an additional top-order option.
The retained core gives Delhi a strong foundation. The batting unit is led by KL Rahul, supported by Nitish Rana, Tristan Stubbs, Karun Nair, Sameer Rizvi and Abishek Porel. The presence of all-rounders Axar Patel and Ashutosh Sharma adds balance, while the bowling attack looks formidable with Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar and Dushmantha Chameera forming a varied pace-spin combination.
With a mix of explosive batters, quality all-rounders and a potent bowling lineup, Delhi Capitals head into the new IPL season with a well-rounded squad capable of challenging strongly across conditions.
