NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals batsman Jos Buttler's unusual run out (mankaded) by

skipper Ravichandran Ashwin took cricketing world by surprise during Match 4 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.

The term '

Mankading

' was first coined in 1947 when the former India cricketer Vinoo Mankad ran out Australia's Bill Brown at the non-striker's end during a Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The incident took place in the 13th over of the Rajasthan Royals innings when Ashwin, while bowling his fourth and the last over of the spell, stopped and took the bails off before bowling a delivery which left non-striker Buttler stunned.

Chasing 185 to win, Rajasthan Royals were 108 for one in 12.4 overs at that stage.

Ashwin appealed for the run-out and Buttler was given out by the third umpire. The incident left Buttler furious who looked in ominous touch (69 off 43 balls). He had a heated exchange with Ashwin before leaving the field.
