NEW DELHI: Table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered their fourth defeat of the IPL 2025 season on Thursday, going down by 33 runs to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was their second loss to LSG this season, with Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals being the only other teams to defeat them this year.
Despite the loss, Shubman Gill’s side still leads the points table with 18 points, thanks to their earlier dominant run. However, the defeat has made their path to a top-two finish more complicated.

GT have one league match remaining, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, May 25, at home. A win will take them to 20 points, virtually sealing a top-two spot.
Only RCB and PBKS — both on 17 points from 12 games — can surpass them if they win both of their remaining matches and reach 21 points.
Here’s how GT can still make it:- Beat CSK to move to 20 points.
- Hope either RCB or PBKS lose at least one of their two remaining games. That would leave them at a maximum of 19 points.
- RCB face SRH and LSG, both eliminated, but still dangerous.
- PBKS play Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, with MI needing a win to dent PBKS’s hopes.
- If both RCB and PBKS win both games, GT will be pushed to third despite finishing with 20 points.
In short, GT’s fate remains in their hands, but they’ll need help from other results if they are to ensure the coveted top-two finish.
