NEW DELHI: The IPL 2025 playoff race has taken a dramatic turn after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were knocked out of contention following their defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This loss ended LSG’s hopes of making it to the final four, leaving the playoffs picture tighter and more intense than ever.
With LSG’s elimination, five teams have now bowed out of the race, and only one spot remains up for grabs in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Two teams are fiercely competing for this final playoff berth — Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC).

Remaining Matches: vs Delhi Capitals, vs Punjab Kings
If MI win both remaining matches, they will finish with 18 points and qualify comfortably for the playoffs. Winning against Delhi Capitals alone could be enough to secure their spot. However, if MI lose both games, they will be eliminated.
DELHI CAPITALS (DC):Current Points: 13
Remaining Matches: vs Mumbai Indians, vs Punjab Kings
For DC, winning both matches will guarantee qualification with 17 points. If they lose to MI, they will be eliminated. If DC win against MI but lose to Punjab Kings, their qualification will then depend on MI losing against Punjab Kings as well.
KEY IPL 2025 PLAYOFF SCENARIO 1: THE DC VS MI SHOWDOWN ON MAY 21The crucial match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on May 21 is set to decide the fate of the final playoff spot. If DC lose this match, they are out of the tournament, and MI will qualify for the playoffs.
But if DC win, they will overtake MI in points and gain an advantage in the race.
IPL 2025 PLAYOFF SCENARIO 2: THE ROLE OF PUNJAB KINGS (ONLY IF DC WIN AGAINST MI)If Delhi Capitals manage to beat Mumbai Indians on May 21, the final playoff spot will then be decided by matches involving Punjab Kings. Both DC and MI are scheduled to play Punjab Kings in the last two fixtures.
ON MAY 24, PBKS FACE DC: If DC win this match, they seal their place in the playoffs.
ON MAY 26, PBKS MEET MI: If DC lose against PBKS, then MI must win this match to qualify. However, if MI lose, Delhi Capitals will secure the final playoff spot.
