The 18-year-old Afghan spinner will also miss the forthcoming Champions Trophy due to a fracture in his L4 vertebra, notably in his left pars interarticularis.

Ghazanfar had sustained the injury during Afghanistan's recent tour to Zimbabwe.

"Mumbai Indians wish Ghazanfar a speedy recovery and a warm welcome to Mujeeb into the #OneFamily," MI said in a statement.

One of the youngest players to ever represent Afghanistan, Mujeeb made an immediate impression and made his IPL debut at the age of 17.
