SRH secure Travis Head, Nitish Reddy to complete five retentions for IPL 2025

NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday retained swashbuckling Australian batter Travis Head and young Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to complete their five retentions ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, reported Cricbuzz.The duo will remain with the franchise after their impressive performance last season, where they finished as runners-up to Kolkata Knight Riders.The Marans-owned franchise has now secured five players, including Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma, with a total expenditure of Rs 75 crore on these retentions.Also See: Live Cricket ScoreAccording to BCCI sources, Travis Head, 31, who established a strong opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma in the previous season, has been retained for Rs 14 crore, up from his previous contract of Rs 6.80 crore when SRH acquired him in Dubai.As reported by Cricbuzz earlier, Klaasen has been retained for Rs 23 crore, while team captain Cummins will continue his role for Rs 18 crore. Abhishek Sharma has been retained at Rs 14 crore.The retention of Head ensures SRH maintains their successful left-handed opening combination, which accumulated 599 runs in 13 innings at 13.21 runs per over. Head personally contributed 567 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 191.5 and an average of 40.50.
Nitish has agreed to continue with Hyderabad for Rs 6 crore. BCCI rules state that retaining five capped players costs Rs 75 crore from the purse, which teams can allocate as needed, with the option to exceed this amount by reducing their remaining budget.Nitish's recent India cap has increased his value beyond the Rs 4 crore limit for uncapped players. The 21-year-old Andhra all-rounder, currently selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is considered a promising talent by selectors.Having reached their maximum of five capped retentions under BCCI guidelines, Sunrisers now have Rs 45 crore remaining to complete their squad for the next three seasons, with one RTM available for an uncapped player.
