We are all set for Day 5 to begin! The Mumbai players are in a huddle just outside the boundary ropes and they spread out to take their respective field positions. Dhawal Kulkarni walks out for one last time in a Mumbai jersey and it is a special day for him. Harsh Dubey and Akshay Wadkar are the two overnight batters for Vidarbha. We will see spin straightaway as Musheer Khan is ready to start proceedings wit the ball. Here we go...
On the flip side, Vidarbha batted well but, still lost half of their side and that would certainly be a concern for the team. However, the two overnight batters, the skipper, Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey would continue on the last day of the final. Akshay Wadkar is set and has already played an exceptional inning to back the team at the time when they needed someone to step up. Before him, Karun Nair had an impeccable knock and scored 74 runs off 220 deliveries but unfortunately was dismissed. Harsh Dubey also came on the pitch just before the Stumps on Day 4, and was able to hut a few lusty blows. They need to pull off a miracle if they want to get their hands on that glorifying trophy and a lot will depend on the overnight batters. But the question lies that, will Mumbai stroll to an unprecedented 42nd title win? Or will Vidarbha conjure something magical and put the pressure on the hosts? Let’s find out! Stick around as the start of the Final Day isn’t far away.
Mumbai have a solid lead and are in the driver’s seat in this game. Day 4 was decent overall as they succeeded in getting five wickets before Stumps. The pacers failed to get any breakthroughs but the spinners did their job effectively. The centurion of Mumbai’s second inning, Musheer Khan was once again exceptional but this time with the ball showing his versatility by picking up two crucial wickets. The home side would like to keep their patience as the wicket is likely to assist the spinners and hope that they can replicate their performance. They will hope to make early inroads that will set the tone for them.
Hello and a warm welcome to one and all. It is Day 5, the D-Day of the Ranji Trophy final between Mumbai and Vidarbha at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Vidarbha still needs 290 runs in 90 overs but the hopes are still on for them. Mumbai needs 5 wickets and have the whole day to get the job done and clinch the title.
... DAY 5, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, this has been a stellar Finale thus far and for most of the game, Mumbai have been firm favorites. However, Vidarbha have managed to stay defiant and almost got themselves in a position from where they could even look to chase down the target. They have lost half their side and with 290 runs still needed, Mumbai are back as firm favorites. How much more can Vidarbha delay the inevitable? Or can they even beat the odds and clinch an unlikely victory? Join us on Thursday, 14 March and watch Day 5 unfold. The first ball will be bowled at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT) but you can tune in to our build-up a lot sooner. Cheers!
For the first time since Day 1, Mumbai were under the pump a bit but every now and then, they found a way to pick up wickets at the right times and will feel that they can complete the job on Day 5. The pacers didn't get much of a bowl and were used sparingly. The trio of spinners, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Musheer Khan bowled the majority of the overs and for most parts, they did a fine job of strangling the batters. Mulani picked up the very first wicket but Kotian and Khan ended with two a piece. Overall, the pitch didn't have much demons in it and the spinners will feel they could have been a bit more consistent with their line and lengths. However, with Musheer getting rid of Karun Nair, Mumbai will feel they can get into the tail of Vidarbha and finish things off quickly.
WE ARE HEADING INTO DAY 5! This has been some fightback from Vidarbha on Day 4 but still, Mumbai are pretty far ahead in the game. After a dismal first innings and being asked to chase 538 runs, Vidarbha batted the whole of Day 4 losing just 4 wickets in the process and although the scoring rate was fairly low for most part of the day but in the final session, Vidarbha picked it up. Karun Nair kept on fighting and was able to play a bit freely in the last session and skipper Akshay Wadkar remained positive throughout his inning and the pair added on 90 runs before Nair was dismissed late in the day and Vidarbha lost half their side. This could be a fatal blow but the skipper is unbeaten on 56 and Harsh Dubey has shown a bit of promise as well.

A direct hit would have some questions to the leg umpire.
