NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan commented on India's head coach Gautam Gambhir following India's surprising Test series loss to New Zealand. The New Zealand team won the second Test in Pune by 113 runs on Saturday, securing a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. This loss marks India's first home Test series defeat since 2012.

Wassan sympathized with Gambhir, who now faces criticism for India's performance.

"I feel sorry for Gautam Gambhir to have this albatross across his neck now for losing this series after 12 years, and that too against a team that lost against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka recently. And we are talking about winning the WTC final... In the backdrop of all this, I still cannot overcome this feeling that we have lost within three days," Wassan told PTI.

Wassan stated that he never expected India to lose so dramatically, especially at home against New Zealand. He found it challenging to identify the reasons for India's failure in the series.

"I think it's very difficult to put a finger on one thing which went wrong, but it's very shocking for me. I couldn't, even in my wildest dreams, think that we would lose to New Zealand and that too 2-0 in such a manner. I cannot actually fathom what went wrong," he added.

India's defeat has prompted deep reflection, with Gambhir and the team management now facing tough questions ahead of the final Test.

I am not surprised at all how well NZ performed. One needs to understand NZ players have been playing in the IPL a few years now and understand the conditions well and also know how to play Spin. U could see how well they played the world's 2 top spinners in there own backyard Jadeja and Ashwin. Our Indian batsman majority of them could not play Santner, so that tells you what IPL is doing to these youngsters coming through from white ball cricket to Red Ball . There shot selection was what let them down in those 2 Tests. Test cricket is all about testing your skills how good you are and the batsmen failed here. One can expect Test matches to finish in 4 days as the current generation wants Test to go at a fast pace and it is exciting and will save Test Cricket. Gone are the days where in Test Cricket your strike rate is between 45% to 55%. The current generation of Fans dont want that. End of the day one cannot blame Ghambir as the players have to do it once on the field. Test players must play a few games in the Domestic Competition to do well aganist spin. Kholi I am shocked how difficult he is finding to get runs and going out to spin 80% of the time in the last 2 years. I feel both Rohit and Kholi are there to guide the youngsters through with there experience and BCCI for the Sponsors. It is what it is!!! and the Fans have to live with this and fingers crossed both these seniors will come good in Australia and in the final test aganist NZ. Unnecessary pressure put on themselves for the Australian series due to the fact they r 2 down to NZ. If I performed that way in my job I would have been told to take a walk. The Indian cricketers need to take pride representing there country internationally as this is NOT all about IPL and money. The momentum went NZ way in the first test when Rohit made the wrong call to bat first on a pitch with Wellington overcast conditions. It is beyond me with Rohit experience he made that wrong call. With me sitting in my lounge without seeing the pitch with those overcast Wellington conditions I was convinced he needed to put NZ in to bat.
