So we are all set for the start of play on day 4. The umpires are out in the middle along with the players.

This day has a lot to offer as this day might well decide the fate of this game. A couple of early wickets would put the visitors in the front seat while an hour or so without a wicket would surely settle the nerves for the hosts setting them up for a massive lead in this game.

The visitors would be looking to bundle the hosts for as cheap as they can as batting last on this surface will not be an easy task. Spinners are getting purchase on this track and with Jack Leach and Joe Root at their disposal, the visitors would be looking to create havoc amidst the hosts. The hosts, on the other hand, will surely want to get past this trail of 24 without getting any more dismissals. Hosts will also be having a set target at the back of their mind looking at how brutal this English side is as they are buzzing on the philosophy of Bazzball.

... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...

England would be really happy that they were able to break the opening stand early in the final session. Jack Leach was exceptional with the ball as he kept it very tight for the batters. He also managed to find some extra bounce off the deck which caused a lot of trouble eventually. Also, Joe Root took a wicket as well. It has been about the spinners on Day 3, wonder how the pitch will behave on Day 4. England bowlers were certainly made to toil hard. New Zealand now trail by just 24 runs and they have 7 wickets in hand now. The Kiwis have managed to take some pressure off them but they do have their task cut out if they want to make things difficult for England and take this match down to the wire. The morning session on Day 4 will give us a better picture of how things stand. The first ball will be bowled at 3 am IST (9.30 pm GMT, previous day). Well, they say - 'Patience is a virtue' - this certainly sums up the innings for New Zealand so far. This has been their best batting performance in this series so far. It was Tom Latham and Devon Conway who laid a solid foundation for the side. These two made sure to soak the pressure with the new ball, and went on to record their respective half-centuries. Although, the two could not see off the post-Tea session, as they were sent back in quick succession. Will Young also could not find his feet. Later, Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls did really well to remain unscatched until Stumps on the moving day.

What an enticing day of Test cricket this has been! It started with Tim Southee's onslaught followed by the brilliance of Stuart Broad to get rid of the tail-enders. This allowed the English skipper, Ben Stokes, to enforce the follow-on.
