CHENNAI: It was a night that saw

Kovai Kings

prevail in a keenly-fought TNPL-3 clash against Karaikudi Kaalai. The battle that was decided in a

Super Over

saw Kovai skipper Abhinav Mukund leading the way with a crisply-crafted 59 that set the tone for their chase. "Honestly, this was my first hit in a while. I was suffering from an injury, so I was missing out on match practice. It was great to bat the way I did tonight. I was nervous at the start but after a while I started timing the ball well," Abhinav said after the clash.

Karaikudi while batting first had a sound start, but their middle-overs saw them stutter thanks to the brakes being applied leggie P Rajesh, who returned with figures of 3 for 22. Abhinav felt Rajesh's spell with the ball helped Kovai claw their way into the contest. "Rajesh has been playing

for a long time, he was there when I made my debut for the state. He has come back very strongly, and he is working hard on his game. It showed tonight," Abhinav mentioned.

Despite topping the scoring charts, Abhinav felt he should have closed the contest after the kind of start he provided. Abhinav also opined that his side will have to work their way out on batting well in the end overs. "I would have liked to take the team across the finish line. We should have batted smartly in the death overs and going ahead that is something we will work upon. We are happy to be on the winning side tonight," he said.
