... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...
Good start from Pakistan's openers - Pakistan then began their reply in the second session, with openers Imam-ul-Haq and debutant Azan Awais walking out to face a Bangladesh attack hungry for early inroads. Azan Awais has looked rock solid till this point, whereas Imam has been scratchy but is getting runs, which is the most important thing at this point for the visitors. Pakistan went to Tea at 50 for no loss after 10 overs, with Azan Awais on 18, and Imam-ul-Haq on 28, still trailing Bangladesh by 363 runs. The openers have survived the initial burst, but with the surface deteriorating and Bangladesh's bowlers eager to exploit any footmarks, the evening session promises to be a stern examination of Pakistan's batting resolve, and one that could shape the entire course of this match-up. Alright folks, refill your snacks and join us back around 8.40 am GMT for the post-Tea break action.
A mountain to climb - Bangladesh were all out for 413 in their first innings, a total built on three standout knocks, Shanto's composed century, Mominul's elegant 91, and Mushfiqur Rahim's steady 71, which had put them in commanding control at the close of Day 1. The pitch has already begun to show clear signs of wear by this point, making the total an even more significant achievement for the hosts.
Pakistan fight back on Day 2 - Bangladesh resumed the second session on Day 2 at 380 for 7 at Lunch, with Mushfiqur Rahim still at the crease, having produced another composed and patient innings to move into the seventies amid a crumbling lower order. Pakistan quickly resumed their disciplined effort with the ball, and Mohammad Abbas continued to probe relentlessly, targeting the right areas and picking up the remaining wickets, adding to an impressive five-wicket haul that had been the cornerstone of Pakistan's bowling effort throughout the innings. The Bangladesh tail offered some resistance, with Taskin Ahmed showing heart in playing some attacking strokes to help push the total further along, but ultimately Bangladesh were bowled out, with the final-wicket partnership at least ensuring the score was extended well beyond what Pakistan had hoped to restrict them to.
TEA ON DAY 1 - 18.1 overs were bowled in this session. 83 runs were scored and 3 wickets fell.
