Beyond the boundary: ILT20 stars swap bats for clubs on 'Power 9 Golf Day’

The World ILT20 Season 4 took a brief but refreshing pause from on-field intensity as cricketers, commentators, match officials, partners and key stakeholders came together for the annual DP World ILT20 ‘Power 9 Golf Day’ at the award-winning Els Club in Dubai.

Now an established tradition during the ILT20 tournament window, the Golf Day offered a relaxed setting for members of the cricketing fraternity to unwind, network and enjoy the scenic course alongside professional golfer Richard Mansell, amid the month-long cricket festivities in the UAE.



Among those taking to the greens were DP World ILT20 cricketers Sam Curran, David Payne, Andries Gous and Dinesh Karthik, who joined fellow participants for an afternoon marked by camaraderie, light-hearted competition and conversations away from the pressures of elite sport.

The event also saw several familiar faces from the broadcast world in attendance, including Wasim Akram, Ian Bishop, Simon Doull, Nikhil Chopra, Urooj Mumtaz Khan, Owais Shah and Laura McGoldrick. Match officials Rod Tucker and Martin Saggers were also present, alongside Ishan Chopra, Head of Partnerships, DP World ILT20.

Desert Vipers all-rounder Sam Curran highlighted the importance of such moments during a demanding tournament. “It’s been a fantastic day out here at The Els Club. With big games coming up, it’s always nice to step away from the intensity, relax and enjoy something different. The DP World ILT20 has been an incredible tournament to be part of, and we’re hopeful of going one step further and winning the Final this year,” he said.

ILT20 commentator Simon Doull echoed similar sentiments, noting the value of the informal interactions. “On the golf course, players are far more relaxed, and it’s a great chance to catch up with everyone involved. Events like this underline how important the DP World partnership is in bringing the tournament together,” Doull said.

Speaking on the occasion, Ishan Chopra emphasised the growing significance of the event. “The DP World ILT20 ‘Power 9 Golf Day’ has become a much-loved annual tradition.
