NEW DELHI: Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed complete support for Shafali Verma, who was recently omitted from India's ODI squad. The captain is hopeful for Shafali's return to form before the Women's World Cup, scheduled in India next year.

The team will also miss wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia, who is recovering from a wrist injury sustained during the Women's Big Bash League.

"She (Shafali) is a very important player for us and has done exceptionally well for the country. We are looking forward to seeing her get back into her zone and perform well for the team," Harmanpreet stated in Brisbane before their opening match against Australia.

The squad has welcomed Uma Chetri as Bhatia's replacement, whilst Richa Ghosh, Harleen Deol, Titas Sadhu and Minnu Mani have returned to the team for the three-match series.

Harmanpreet emphasised their consistent aim for victory, noting the team's positive performance in ODIs and their intention to maintain this momentum.

The captain discussed their strategy of experimenting with different player combinations to identify strong performers. She highlighted the importance of selecting players suited to home conditions for the upcoming World Cup.

The Indian team, coming from a 2-1 ODI series victory against New Zealand at home, faces a significant challenge. Their record in Australia stands at four victories in 16 ODIs, including a 2-1 loss in their previous series in 2021.

"We performed really well against New Zealand in home conditions. Here, the conditions are different, and we are working hard to adapt quickly.

"We all enjoy playing ODIs more than any other format. It's a format we always look forward to. With the World Cup in India coming up, playing against Australia, who always play excellent cricket wherever they go, is a great platform for us to showcase our skills.

"We had two days of training and tried to settle in as soon as possible. Everyone is feeling good and looking in great shape."
