HCA League: Junaid's double century puts Ensconse in the driver's seat

HYDERABAD: Opener Junaid Ali struck a double century to put Ensconse in the driver's seat against India Cements in the HCA's A-1 Division (3-day) League Championship on Thursday.
At stumps on the penultimate day, Cements were 109 for five. Earlier, Ensconse declared their innings at 548 for seven. Junaid, resuming at his overnight score of 147, found an able partner in Syed Mehdi Hasan.The duo added 170 for the fifth wicket before Hasan fell for 76.
Junaid, who was going strong, forged another century partnership with Mohammed Azharuddin, who struck a 61-ball unbeaten 61 (5x4, 3x6). Junaid finally departed after scoring 276 off 409 balls with 32 hits to the fence and Ensconse skipper Ammaar Ayub declared the innings closed.
Mohammed Asaduddin missed out on a century but his knock kept EMCC on track for the vital first innings lead against Jai Hanuman. Asaduddin fell for 98 (178b; 11x4, 2x6) as EMCC were 184 for four in reply to Hanuman's 222.
At the SCRSA ground, L Hemanth Singh's century helped the hosts take a 177-run lead against Deccan Chronicle. Replying to Chronicle's 184, SCRSA made 361 with Hemanth getting 105 (176b; 9x4, 3x6). Aman Upadhyay bagged six for 58 for Chronicle. In their second innings, Chronicle fared much better as Sai Vikas Reddy hit an unbeaten 100 to help them reach 181 for one at stumps.
KSK Chaitanya (99), Vinay Kumar (5/59), Krishna Charit (5/75) and Divesh Singh (5/114) were others who did well.
In the A-2 Division (2-day) League, S Nikhil devastated Saleemnagar to set up Concorde's six-wicket win. Nikhil took seven for 72 as Saleemnagar were bowled out for 180. Concorde replied with 183 for four.
