NEW DELHI: Ibrahim Zadran, the opening batsman for Afghanistan, sustained an ankle injury during the team's final practice session before their inaugural Test match against New Zealand, which is set to commence on Monday in Christchurch.
The 22-year-old's participation in the one-off Test remains uncertain due to the injury.
"Today, in the practice session, Ibrahim had an injury in his ankle. But it's not sure 100 per cent what will happen tomorrow. We will see what will happen with him," stated Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi during the pre-match press conference.
Zadran, who has represented Afghanistan in seven out of their nine Test matches, scored his first century in the format against Sri Lanka in February this year. The Afghan team is already without the services of their star spinner, Rashid Khan, for this historic encounter.
The preparations of both Afghanistan and New Zealand for this landmark Test have been hampered by continuous rainfall in the lead-up to the match.
