NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to send a delegation to Pakistan in the near future to assess the country's readiness for hosting the Champions Trophy next year.
According to a report by Sports Tak, the ICC delegation is expected to arrive in Pakistan within the next ten days to evaluate preparations and other key aspects.
Following the delegation's visit, the ICC is anticipated to release the tournament schedule and commence ticket sales for the highly anticipated event.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set aside a substantial sum of Rs 12.80 billion for the renovation and improvement of three cricket stadiums - Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium. These venues are slated to host the upcoming major cricketing event.
Despite the preparations being in full swing, the participation of the Indian team remains uncertain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will adhere to the directives issued by the Central government when making a decision regarding their involvement in the tournament.
Meanwhile, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi mentioned that he is coordinating with the BCCI about their participation in the Champions Trophy.
"Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, we are in touch with the boards of the teams participating in the tournament," Geo News quoted Naqvi as saying.
"We are in touch with Jay Shah; there are no concerns about his becoming ICC Chairman. The ACC meeting is on September 8 and 9. I will not be able to attend the meeting and Salman Nasir will attend. The meeting will finalise matters related to the new president," he added.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah became the new ICC chairman last month which means he has to vacate his president role from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) as well as from the home board.
Last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and their matches were held in Colombo, Sri Lanka while the rest of the tournament was played in Pakistan.
