India's squad for Australia ODIs: End of the road for Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja?
The senior men’s selection committee on Saturday has picked India’s ODI squad for the upcoming bilateral series against Australia. Shubman Gill has replaced Rohit Sharma as India's new ODI captain.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of the Indian squad for ODIs against Australia, but at the same time, it looks like the end of the road for Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami, the duo who were part of India's Champions Trophy-winning team.
Jadeja was appointed as vice-captain for the ongoing two-match Test series against West Indies and was adjudged player of the match for his all-round show.

"I have been working hard with my batting. We had a two-month break, there was no Test cricket or ODIs. I was working on my fitness and I went to the Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, worked on my skills and fitness there," he said at the post-match presentation.
Last month in Dubai, during the Asia Cup, while announcing the squad for the West Indies Test series, Agarkar had said that the pacer hasn't played a lot over the last few years at the international level and needs to do more in the domestic circuit to force his way back into the mix.
"I have no update. He has played in the Duleep Trophy. But in the last two-three years, he hasn't played a lot of cricket. I think he played one game for Bengal and one in the Duleep Trophy. As a performer, we know what he can do, but he has to play cricket," Agarkar had said about Shami.
India’s white-ball tour of Australia starts with the ODI series opener on October 19 at Perth Stadium, and is followed by matches at Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground on October 23 and 25 respectively.
It is followed by the five-match T20I series beginning on October 29 at Manuka Oval in Canberra, with further games to be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 31, Bellerive Oval in Hobart on November 2, Gold Coast Stadium on November 6, and The Gabba in Brisbane on November 8.
The last time India toured Australia for a bilateral ODI series, the visitors lost by a 2-1 margin in 2020/21, but managed to win the subsequent T20I series by the same margin on the same tour.
India’s ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
India’s T20I squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill (VC), Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, and Washington Sundar.
