CHENNAI: India and Tamil Nadu opening batsman Murali Vijay was on Thursday left out from the Tamil Nadu squad for the ongoing

Vijay Hazare Trophy

after the batsman "failed to report" to the SSN College Ground for the third round match against Mumbai citing a "shoulder injury".

A TNCA release stated that the "selection committee, the team physio nor the association were aware of" Vijay's injury. Young TN U-19 batsman Pradosh Ranjan Paul replaced Vijay, who featured in the first two matches of the tournament.

"The State Selection Committee of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has replaced Pradosh Ranjan Paul in place of M Vijay. This was after M Vijay failed to report for today's Vijay Hazare Trophy One Day Group C League match against Mumbai due to shoulder pain which the State Selection Committee, the Team Physio nor the TNCA are aware off," the release stated.

However, TOI has learnt from reliable TNCA sources that Vijay had informed about the injury to coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar around 7.30am on Thursday and that "he didn't" communicate anything to the selectors or the TNCA even after the completion of the match.

A top TNCA official told TOI that the state association is "extremely unhappy" with the incident. "The association is unhappy. It was a crucial contest. Such an incident was least expected from a senior cricketer like Vijay. Till now TNCA officials haven't got any information from him regarding the injury. Thus the selection committee and TNCA decided to name a replacement for him," the official said.

When TOI contacted Vijay on the issue, there was no response.

The 33-year-old Vijay, who scored a 51 against Goa in the second match, was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL auctions.
