KOLKATA: Veteran Indian speedster Jhulan Goswami on Monday returned to the top of the ICC women's rankings for ODI bowlers following her fine performance in the recent series win over England eves at home.


The 36-year-old Jhulan, who last held the No. 1 spot in February 2017, bagged eight wickets in the three-match series, that India won 2-1.

So how does it feel to be back on top? "For me it has always been important to help my team win matches. The idea was to bag as many points as possible for World Cup qualification. Having said that it feels good to be back on top," Jhulan said.

Jhulan, the most successful bowler in ODIs with 218 wickets, has been No. 1 for 1873 days - second only to retired Australia fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick who occupied the numero uno position for 2113 days. "Oh really! I wasn't aware that I was closing in on Fitzi on this too," remarked Jhulan, who was not aware of this piece of statistics.

Like vintage wine, Juhlan seems to be getting better with age. "When I started off, I had raw pace that made me lethal. I am still lethal but now with better control," Jhulan opined.
