MUMBAI: It's turning out to be one of the better seasons for Mumbai in junior cricket. On Wednesday, Mumbai's Under-14 boys clinched the Under-14 West Zone Tournament when they beat Saurashtra in the final on the basis of first innings lead, at the Sanosara Cricket Stadium 2 in Rajkot.

Kartik Kumar (67) and Shon Korgaonkar (55) scored fifties as Mumbai made 312, despite Maharshi Vaghela taking eight for 76. In reply, Shreeraj Bambhaniya (64) and Maharshi Vaghela (58) scored fifties, but Zaid Khan took six for 119 to restrict Saurashtra to 286.

Last month, Mumbai's under-16 team had clinched the BCCI's Vijay Merchant Trophy, while the under-19 side had reached the final of both the under-19 (one-day & four-day) events.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 312 (Kartik Kumar 67, Shon Korgaonkar 55, Nathaniel Fereira 37, Abdurahman Khan 32, Yug Asopa 31; Maharshi Vaghela 8-76) beat Saurashtra 286 (Shreeraj Bambhaniya 64, Maharshi Vaghela 58; Zaid Khan 6-119) on first innings lead.
