MUMBAI: Musheer Khan’s father
Naushad Khan has appealed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to review the three-year ban on his son, slapped by the cricket body after the youngster allegedly ‘flashed’ a teammate during the (U-16) Vijay Merchant Trophy in December last year.
Naushad has requested the MCA to let Musheer off with a reprimand, or reduce his suspension to a few matches, as the budding left-arm spinning allrounder, at 14, is a minor and has already delivered an “outstanding performance” so far at all levels on the cricket field.
Crucially, he has also informed the MCA that “taking a cue from this incident, as a genuinely concerned parent,” he has referred his son, to a psychologist for counselling as a “corrective and preventive measure”.
In a letter (TOI has a copy) he wrote to the MCA on Tuesday, Naushad pointed out that as advised, Musheer had submitted a written apology for his misconduct.
Naushad cited his son’s “tender age” and “outstanding performance” as reasons the MCA must re-consider before persisting with the decision to ban him from all cricket till January 2022.
Naushad has also informed the MCA that in order to improve his behaviour, Musheer is currently undergoing counselling by a psychologist.
