On this day in 2013, Indian cricket fans witnessed one of the most memorable moments in the country’s cricket history. At Edgbaston in Birmingham, the MS Dhoni-led Indian team defeated England in a thrilling final to win the ICC Champions Trophy.
The match had everything a fan could hope for. Rain delayed the start and reduced the game to just 20 overs per side. India batted first and struggled at the start but a fighting partnership between Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja helped the team reach 129 for seven in 20 overs. Kohli scored an important 43 runs while Jadeja added a quick 33 not out.

England started their chase well and were looking in control at one point. However, the Indian bowlers kept their nerves and made a strong comeback. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Jadeja bowled tight overs to put pressure on the English batsmen. Ishant Sharma took two big wickets in the same over which turned the game in India’s favour.
In the final over, England needed 15 runs to win. MS Dhoni trusted his spinner Ashwin to bowl the last six balls. Ashwin held his nerve and India won the nail-biting match by just five runs.
