NEW DELHI: Pakistan's star pacer Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday. The 32-year-old played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is for Pakistan since making his international debut in June 2009.
Throughout his career, Amir took 271 international wickets and scored 1,179 runs across all formats. One of his most notable achievements was his exceptional performance in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, where he recorded figures of 3-16, dismissing key batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan.
Amir's retirement announcement came just one day after all-rounder Imad Wasim’s departure from international cricket. Both cricketers represented Pakistan in this year's T20 World Cup, held in the USA and West Indies.
"After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable," Amir stated on his social media.
"I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights," Amir said.
"Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends, and, above all, my fans for their continuous love and support," he added.
