KOLKATA: Batting woes continued to haunt Odisha as they find themselves already 216 runs behind hosts Baroda at stumps on Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group D opening-round match in Vadodara on Saturday.

Odisha bowlers did a good job in the morning session by bowling Baroda out for 351 after they started on overnight score 322/6. Rajesh Mohanty was pick of the Odisha bowlers returning four for 74 while Suryakant Pradhan took two wickets. However, their batters faltered again barring captain and opener Shantanu Mishra (45) and veteran Govinda Poddar (68) at No. 6 as Odisha innings folded for 178 in 59th over.

Medium pacer Atit Sheth, who earlier scored a half-century, led Baroda’s attack with three for 50 as left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt scalped two for 28.

Coming on to bat again, the home side lost opener Kinit Patel (1) in the second over but other opener Jyotsnil Singh and Shashwat Rawat made sure there was no further damage as Baroda reached 43/1 in 13 overs — extending their lead over Odisha to 216 runs.
