MUMBAI: Former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule is set to take over as the director of the

) BKC indoor academy.


“The

Cricket

Improvement Committee (CIC) had recommended his name, which was approved unanimously by the Apex Council in Thursday’s meeting. The final details of his contract will soon be worked out,” a source in MCA told TOI on Friday. Bahutule will receive an annual remuneration around Rs 30 lakhs.

Bahutule had been shortlisted for the Mumbai senior team’s head coach job, before domestic stalwart Amol Muzumdar was chosen for the role. The MCA’s CIC is headed by former India batsman and national selector Jatin Paranjape, and includes ex-India players Vinod Kambli and Nilesh Kulkarni.

Besides featuring in two Tests and eight ODIs, the 48-year-old Bahutule played 188 first-class games, in which he took 630 wickets@26.00, and scored 6176 runs@31.83. Post his retirement, he coached Vidarbha, Kerala, Bengal (for four years) and was Gujarat’s coach for the past two seasons. Fitness camp likely to be in Ghansoli
Meanwhile, the Mumbai senior team’s fitness camp, which includes 45 players, is likely to be held in Reliance’s stadium in Ghansoli, it is learnt. The stadium is used for their camps by Reliance’s IPL team, the Mumbai Indians.

In other news, the MCA has hiked the fee of Mumbai senior selectors from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs Rs 9 lakh. The chief selector’s (Salil Ankola) remuneration has been increased from Rs 6 to Rs 10 lakhs.
