'See you on the other side': Riyan Parag shares update after shoulder surgery
MUMBAI: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag on Thursday underwent a successful shoulder surgery in a hospital here.
The surgery was performed by famous orthopedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwalla at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, who has operated on many top cricketers and sportspersons in general. Pardiwalla is the consultant orthopaedic surgeon for the BCCI.
"Well, the shoulder finally won! For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge. But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Now comes a different challenge- recovery, rehab and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side," Parag posted on Instagram, along with his picture after the surgery on Saturday.
Parag is expected to be out of the game for a considerable period of time now, and is likely to miss a majority of the 2026-27 season, with the focus on his recovery and rehab.
Parag was initially named as the vice-captain for the India A squad for the 50-over tri-series featuring Afghanistan A and hosts Sri Lanka A, but was replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad after he was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Parag's rehabilitation will be managed by the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The shoulder and hamstring injuries forced Parag to miss a couple of matches in IPL-2026, in which he scored 309 runs in 14 matches@23.76, at a strike rate of 157.65, with two fifties, as he led the Rajasthan Royals into the playoffs. The batting allrounder has played one ODI (15 runs @15.00) and nine T20Is (106 runs@17.66) for India, all in 2024.
The 24-year-old Assam captain was engulfed by controversy during IPL-2026 when he was caught by the cameras vaping in the dressing room and was fined and warned by the BCCI.
