NEW DELHI: President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Snehasish Ganguly, was admitted to Woodlands Hospital on Tuesday after experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
"Mr. Snehasish Ganguly was admitted to Woodlands Hospital this morning with Diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain under Dr. Saptarshi Basu. He is on IV Fluids and antibiotics. He is stable and under observation," read a press statement from Woodlands Hospital.
Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Meanwhile, a sudden surge in diarrhoea cases has hit Cuttack district, with 64 patients reported so far. Of these, 55 have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, and nine others are being treated at City Hospital, Cuttack.
Authorities confirmed one death linked to the outbreak. In response, all schools and colleges across Cuttack district have been ordered to remain closed until June 20 as a precautionary measure.
Dr Tapan Kumar Mishra, Senior Medicine Consultant at City Hospital, voiced concern over patient conduct during treatment.
"Patients are coming in the morning with symptoms like abdominal pain and vomiting. However, after receiving just 1-2 days of saline and treatment, many are leaving the hospital on their own without informing our staff. We are helpless in such cases," he said.
He highlighted that such premature departures are contributing to recurring diarrhoea cases.
"Proper recovery is not possible without completing the full course of treatment. This mindset of leaving midway is dangerous," Dr Mishra warned, stressing the need for counselling such patients.
City Hospital has allocated 20 dedicated beds for diarrhoea patients, with five more on standby for emergencies. Dr Mishra also issued a public advisory, urging people to avoid all street food during this period.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and follow medical guidance.
