Tamil Nadu eves lose to Saurashtra

CHENNAI: Saurashtra eves scored a thrilling three-wicket win over their counterparts from Tamil Nadu in the

senior women's one-day league

encounter at the Nimpur Ground in Cuttack on Thursday.

Saurashtra won the toss and chose to field first, a move that paid rich dividends. Tamil Nadu could only manage to score a modest 160 for 6 in their quota of 50 overs. Skipper Niranjana Nagarajan top-scored with 76 that contained 6 boundaries and arrived in 107 deliveries.

L Nethra

was other notable contributor for Tamil Nadu with 35. For the Saurashtra side, Reena (2 for 28), Neha (2 for 29) and Nirali (2 for 37) made it count.

In reply, Saurashtra did stumble before overhauling the target in 49.4 overs.

Jayu Jadeja

led the batting charts for the winners with a patient knock of 66 that came off 130 balls. Jayu's innings had four hits to the fence.

Apart from Jayu, Reena too made an unbeaten 26. For the losing team, Vilasini shone with figures of 2 for 46. Saurashtra bagged four points for their points while Tamil Nadu received none.

Akshan shared a 99-run stand for the sixth wicket with NA Chinmay who is unbeaten on 73. Kruthik Krishna with 35 was the other main contributor for the batting side. For Tamil Nadu, Manav Parakh took 2 for 27.
