KOLKATA: Odisha eased to their third victory in six matches as they beat Sikkim by nine wickets in a Group A match of Vijay Hazare Trophy in Alur on Sunday. Opting to bowl first, Odisha skittled Sikkim for 111 inside 35 overs with medium pacers Debabrata Pradhan and Tarani Sa sharing seven wickets between them.

Odisha reached the target in 21.5 overs losing just one wicket in the form of captain Shantanu Mishra as other opener Sandeep Pattnaik and Kartik Biswal shared an unbeaten stand of 107 runs. In their last game, Odisha – out of contention for the next round – play group toppers Mumbai, who were upset by Tripura in another match on Sunday.

In an inconsequential Group D match of Vijay Hazare Trophy, Assam suffered their fourth loss in five games as they went down to fellow northeast neighbours Arunachal Pradesh by 22 runs despite restricting their opponents to 134 in 35.4 overs.

Mukhtar Hussain, Mayukh Hazarika and Avinov Choudhury took three wickets apiece to raise Assam’s hopes for an easy win, but their good work was undone by their batters as none other than Bishal Roy (59 of 46 balls) could make any valuable contribution chasing a small target.

Right arm medium pacer Yab Niya’s superb display with the ball helped him return with six wickets while left-arm spinner Divyanshu Yadav took four for 22 runs as Riyan Parag-less Assam were folded scoring only 112 in 22.1 overs.
