NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed five renowned figures in Pakistan cricket as mentors for the teams participating in the Champions Cup domestic tournament.
The mentors, who have been given three-year contracts, include Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, and Waqar Younis. The selection process for these positions was transparent and rigorous, as stated by the PCB.
Several of the appointed mentors have previously held coaching positions within the national team setup. Waqar Younis recently served as the PCB advisor on cricket affairs, while Saqlain Mushtaq is a former head coach of the national team. Both Misbah and Waqar have also had coaching roles with the national side in the past.
According to the PCB, the mentors' first assignment in the PCB Domestic Cricket Season 2024-25 will be the Champions One-Day Cup, scheduled to take place in Faisalabad from September 12-29.
The board has made it compulsory for all top players to participate in this 50-overs competition.
