Afghanistan A won the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 by beating Sri Lanka A by seven wickets in the final at Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Sunday.
This victory holds significant importance for Afghanistan’s cricket community. Cricketer Rashid Khan shared a video showing the senior team celebrating the win and congratulated their younger teammates. Head coach Jonathan Trott also joined the celebrations.

Sahan Arachchige anchored their innings with an unbeaten 64 off 47 balls. Nimesh Vimukthi and Pawan Rathnayake added 23 and 20 runs respectively. Afghanistan's bowlers, led by Bilal Sami with three wickets for 22 runs and Allah Ghazanfar with two wickets, controlled the game.
Afghanistan started their chase at 134 runs shakily, losing Zubaid Akbari for a first-ball duck. However, Sediqullah Atal scored an unbeaten 55, and Darwish Rasooli contributed 24 runs, providing stability. Later, Karim Janat and Mohammad Ishaq, with scores of 33 and 16-, respectively, secured a comfortable victory for Afghanistan.
This win not only brought the Emerging Teams Asia Cup to Afghanistan but also showcased the nation's growing cricket strength. Celebrations by both players and coaches emphasized the team's unity and determination for future competitions.
