Mitchell Starc starred with an extraordinary spell, taking six wickets for nine runs in 7.3 overs. Scott Boland followed up with a stunning hat-trick, becoming the first bowler to claim one in a Day-Night Test. Australia’s ruthless display ensured they remained unbeaten in the WTC cycle, comfortably holding the top spot.
Meanwhile at Lord’s, England pulled off a thrilling 22-run victory over India in a match full of twists. Set 193 to win, India stumbled to 58 for 4 by stumps on Day 4 and despite a heroic 61 not out from Ravindra Jadeja, were bowled out for 170 in the final session.
The win helped England climb to second in the WTC standings with a points percentage (PCT) of 66.67. Sri Lanka are now in third with the same PCT but fewer matches played. India, who began the Lord’s Test in second place, slipped to fourth with a PCT of 33.33.
Both sides had scored 387 in their first innings, with standout efforts from Joe Root, Jamie Smith, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah. India’s bowlers had put them in a position to win, but England's pace attack, led by Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse, delivered under pressure.
