VADODARA: All-rounder
Yusuf Pathan has been dropped from the Baroda team that will be playing in the
Vijay Hazare One Day Tournament
at Delhi from February 25. Pacer
Munaf Patel too failed to make the cut as the Baroda Cricket Association (
BCA
) selectors, who met on Monday, went for a young and performing squad this time around. While
Irfan Pathan has been made skipper of the team, Deepak Hooda will be the vice-captain.
"Yusuf was dropped as he has not been performing well for quite some time now. He couldn't score much runs in the Ranji Trophy matches this season and even in T20 matches, he scored only one half century. Munaf too hasn't performed with the ball. We decided to give chance to youngsters who have been performing well," said a BCA official. Yusuf played five Ranji matches in 2016-17 season and scored just 76 runs apart from bagging six wickets.
Munaf also bagged just six wickets in the three matches he played in the Ranji Trophy this season. "The seniors were given enough chances to perform including the ongoing G 1 tournament. The current team has been picked up to prepare a squad for the future tournaments," the official added. The other team members for
Vijay Hazare One Day Tournament include
Kedar Devdhar, Aditya Waghmode, Krunal Pandya, Monil Patel, Swapnil Singh, Vishnu Solanki, Abhijeet Karambelkar, Atit Sheth, Rishi Arothe,
Pinal Shah, Shoaib Tai, Baba Khan Pathan and Lukman Meriwala.
After being out of action due to an injury, Krunal was back in action in G 1 tournament against Saurashtra wherein he scored 60 runs and also took wickets on Monday. "The team has been selected on the basis of performances in domestic tournaments and the players will put in their best," said Snehal Parikh, BCA secretary (in-charge).
