PBKS vs LSG Highlights: Punjab Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs

PBKS vs LSG Live Score, IPL 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their winning momentum with a dominant performance, defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 37 runs in Dharamsala. This victory propelled PBKS to the second spot on the points table with 15 points from 11 matches, while LSG remained in seventh place after their sixth loss of the season. Notably, this was PBKS' first win at this venue since IPL 2023.

Earlier, after LSG elected to field, Punjab Kings posted a formidable 236/5 in their 20 overs, built on a strong collective batting effort highlighted by Prabhsimran Singh's brilliant 91 off 48 balls. Despite an early setback with Priyansh Arya's dismissal in the first over to Akash Singh (2/30 on his LSG debut with a fine new-ball spell), PBKS recovered strongly. Promoted to number three, Josh Inglis contributed a quick 30 before becoming Akash's second victim.

Prabhsimran Singh continued his excellent form, notching his third consecutive half-century and striking several powerful shots. He forged a crucial 78-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Shreyas Iyer, who contributed a solid 45 but missed out on his third consecutive fifty at this venue in the T20 format. Later in the innings, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, and Marcus Stoinis provided valuable cameos, capitalizing on LSG's underwhelming bowling attack.

Apart from Akash Singh, LSG's bowling lacked impact. Digvesh Singh Rathi took two wickets but conceded 46 runs, while Prince Yadav claimed 1/43. Avesh Khan and Mayank Yadav proved expensive, giving away a combined 117 runs in their eight overs.

In response, Arshdeep Singh's devastating three-wicket opening spell dismantled LSG's top order. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran in quick succession, significantly hindering the visitors' chase. Rishabh Pant began cautiously but then played a rash shot, getting out before David Miller's cheap dismissal left LSG struggling at 73/5 around the halfway mark.

Ayush Badoni (74 off 40) and Abdul Samad (45 off 24) mounted a spirited fightback, putting together an 81-run partnership for the sixth wicket to avoid a heavy defeat. While the two youngsters batted brilliantly, their efforts weren't enough to trouble the hosts. Marco Jansen broke the partnership, and Badoni continued his aggressive innings before Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed him in the final over. Avesh Khan managed to hit some late boundaries, but it was too little too late for LSG.

All is in readiness to kick off the action here in Dharamshala. The umpires have come out to the middle, followed by the players of Lucknow Super Giants led by their skipper, Rishabh Pant. They now take their respective positions, and also, the two usual openers of Punjab Kings this season, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, come out to open the innings. Akash Singh, on his debut for Lucknow Super Giants, has the new ball, and he will start the proceedings. Here we go...

Earlier in the first match of today's doubleheader, Kolkata Knight Riders have defeated Rajasthan Royals by the smallest margin of 1 run in a dramatic thriller match. Firstly, they made a good total of 206/4, courtesy of the top-order contribution and a late flourish by Andre Russell with the bat. After that, in the second inning, KKR were clinical with the ball too, managing to pick up the first five wickets of RR at a score of just 71. But then Riyan Parag played the biggest knock of his IPL career and fell agonisingly short of a well-deserved hundred, 95 runs. He was taking the game away from KKR, and then their bowlers made a comeback in the game with RR needing 22 runs in the last over. Shubham Dubey hit two sixes and a boundary, though, but Vaibhav Arora darted a well-directed yorker last ball, and Jofra Archer got run out in trying to pick up the second run by a throw of Rinku Singh. With this win, KKR have managed to keep their playoff hopes alive while the disastrous run of RR continues.

IPL Live Score: Iyer speaks
"We would have bowled first as well. Absolutely, the wicket was covered for a while. It was pouring yesterday and the day before. The wicket was under the sheets so you know the moisture it adapts. The grass also looks a bit thick. I don't want to predict how the wicket will play but I am up for the challenge.

I always say that you need to take the positives from every single match. If you be negative, it haunts you a lot. We enjoy each others success and that culture helps in the team. We want to keep things simple as much as we can.

Stoinis comes into the side for us."

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Pant speaks
"We are going to bowl first. We don't know how it's gonna play. It's a little loose on the top end but looks a good wicket.

It's gonna be a good match. Bowling first gives us some advantage. We can see how the game unfolds and that's the advantage we are looking to have.

Just trying to keep it simple. When you are losing you still want people to have freedom and have conversations about the game. You need to keep the environment stable.

It's good to see youngsters stepping in. We are trying to build a team where everyone can contribute to the winning cause."

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Pitch report
Dharamsala hosts its first IPL 2025 match on Sunday with a pitch primed for a high-scoring contest. Traditionally batting-friendly, the surface here offers true bounce and pace, ideal for stroke play. The high-altitude venue aids the ball flying off the bat, but early movement with the new ball can test openers.

Seamers who pitch it up may find swing, especially under overcast conditions. Spinners could struggle due to minimal grip. Rain is a possible factor, potentially adding moisture and assisting seamers early on. Overall, expect a quick outfield and a belter for batters once the ball softens.

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Who is Mitchell Owen?
Punjab Kings have roped in emerging Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League season with a fractured finger.

The injury adds to a forgettable campaign for Maxwell, who managed just 48 runs in seven appearances this year, with six single-digit scores. He sustained the injury ahead of PBKS’ abandoned fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 26.

The IPL confirmed the development via a statement: “Punjab Kings have picked all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a broken finger.”

The 23-year-old Tasmanian, a powerful right-handed batter and seam-bowling option, has been signed for Rs 3 crore.

Owen comes into the IPL spotlight following a sensational 2024/25 Big Bash League season where he scored 452 runs at an average of 45.20 and a stunning strike rate of 203.60, including two centuries.

His recent stints in SA20 and PSL had mixed outcomes, but his potential was enough to earn him spots in both leagues. Across 34 T20 matches, Owen has racked up 646 runs and picked up 10 wickets.

Owen is known for his intimidating presence at the crease, capable of clearing boundaries with brute force. His aggressive style, long levers, and handy bowling make him a promising T20 asset.

As PBKS look to stay afloat in the playoff race, Owen's arrival could provide the much-needed x-factor.

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Haddin lauds young talents
Ahead of Punjab Kings match against Lucknow Super Giants, assistant coach Brad Haddin revealed how the Kings are keen to capitalize on their recent form and secure a pivotal victory in front of their home crowd.

Haddin highlighted the impact made by the younger players throughout the season and how their contributions have strengthened the team.

A prime example of a youngster coming good for Punjab Kings is Priyansh Arya, the 23-year-old from Delhi who has so far scored 346 runs in 10 matches and has forged a successful partnership with Prabhsimran Singh (346 runs).

“Our young guys are really starting to step up, and that’s been the most pleasing aspect so far. Of course, our senior players thrive in these high-pressure moments and will be key to winning games, but it’s the emerging talent that’s giving us real depth,” Haddin noted.

Currently positioned fourth in the league standings behind Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, all three with 14 points, the Kings have had an exciting season so far.

Speaking on the team's progress, Haddin said, “For us, it's all about excitement. This is the time of the tournament when you want to be playing your best cricket. And if you look at our recent performances, we’ve been getting better with each game.”

“We were really clinical with the bat in the last game. What we’re aiming for is a steady improvement, especially as we approach the final stages of the tournament,” he added.

Praising the bowling unit, Haddin discussed their adaptability and strategic approach, which has played a key role in limiting opposition totals.

“Last year we saw some steep totals, and although that’s still the case at times, I think the bowlers deserve a lot of credit. They’ve done their homework, especially with the new 'Impact Player' rule, and it’s showing in their execution throughout the tournament,” he said.

He also discussed the support being received from the locals and stressed how the support has been as immense as they received in Mullanpur.

“Since we've been here, the support's been outstanding. I know most of the guys have gone up for a walk through the hills and the support has been overwhelming here. And I think, that's why we do bring some games here, as the support is immense. The love for our team here is just like it was back in Chandigarh,” Haddin concluded.

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Punjab Kings rope in Aussie all-rounder Mitch Owen
Punjab Kings have signed Australian all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season due to a fractured finger.

Maxwell, who endured a forgettable campaign with the bat this season, managed just 48 runs in seven appearances — including six single-digit scores. The injury occurred ahead of PBKS’s rain-affected match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 26, where Maxwell scored just seven runs before being dismissed.

He was subsequently replaced by Suryansh Shedge in the playing XI for PBKS’s following match against Chennai Super Kings, which the Kings won by four wickets.

"Punjab Kings have picked all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a broken finger," the IPL confirmed in a statement.

Owen, 23, is a promising right-handed batter and right-arm medium pacer from Tasmania. He has represented his state in 14 first-class matches and brings solid T20 credentials to the Shreyas Iyer-led squad.

"Mitch Owen, from Tasmania, Australia, has played 34 T20s and scored 646 runs, including two centuries and a highest score of 108. The Australian all-rounder also has 10 T20 wickets to his name," the league statement added.

Punjab Kings secured Owen’s services for ₹3 crore as they look to maintain their momentum heading into the business end of the season.

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Punjab Kings' new challenge
However, PBKS have a new challenge to deal with. Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a fractured finger, leaving Iyer with a tricky selection dilemma. Depending on conditions, he could call upon Azmatullah Omarzai, the uncapped Australian Aaron Hardie, or pacer Xavier Bartlett to fill the void.

In the batting department, opener Prabhsimran Singh has been a revelation. The 25-year-old became the first uncapped player in IPL history to breach the 1100-run mark when PBKS downed CSK in their last fixture. Backed by a stable top and middle order — including Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, and Shashank Singh — Punjab’s batting looks well-rounded.

PBKS's bowling, too, received a massive boost with Yuzvendra Chahal’s return to form. The experienced leg-spinner claimed a hat-trick against CSK, relying on guile and subtle variations on a turning track.

Meanwhile, LSG return to action after a week-long break, with their last match — a 54-run defeat to Mumbai Indians — exposing frailties in a batting unit otherwise stacked with firepower.

While the comeback of express pacer Mayank Yadav was encouraging, LSG failed to click collectively. Bowling at slightly reduced speeds in the 140 kmph range (down from his 150-155 kmph highs), Mayank still managed to snare two wickets and will be looking to build on that momentum.

With Nicholas Pooran (377 runs), Mitchell Marsh (344), and Aiden Markram (326) forming the core of LSG’s batting strength, their form will be crucial in determining the outcome of Sunday’s clash.

On the bowling front, Avesh Khan has been a consistent performer, and Mayank's inclusion adds much-needed pace to the attack. Whether that’s enough to keep PBKS at bay remains to be seen.

PBKS vs LSG Live Score: Hello and welcome!
Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the scenic Dharamsala stadium.

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant’s prolonged batting slump and Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer’s sublime touch have set the stage for a crucial mid-table IPL showdown on Sunday — one that could decisively shape the playoff prospects of both teams as the tournament enters its business end.

Iyer, who has seamlessly balanced captaincy with consistent batting, has been instrumental in PBKS's campaign. His astute game sense and leadership have lifted the franchise to fourth place on the table with 13 points from 10 matches. In their previous outing, Iyer notched up his fourth half-century of the season, reinforcing his role as PBKS's batting linchpin.

Pant, in contrast, has struggled to make any significant impact with the bat. With just 110 runs from 10 matches — including six single-digit scores — the wicketkeeper-batter’s only bright spot remains a 63-run knock against Chennai Super Kings. As a result, LSG find themselves in a must-win situation, sitting sixth with 10 points.

Iyer, who played a pivotal role in Kolkata Knight Riders' title-winning campaign last season before being released ahead of the mega auction, was picked up by Punjab Kings for a staggering ?26.75 crore. Since then, he has delivered immediate returns with sharp tactics and maturity under pressure.

Once susceptible to short-pitched bowling, Iyer has worked hard on his technique to neutralise that long-standing weakness — a testament to his growth as a player.
PBKS vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) hammered Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 37 runs in their crucial IPL match to move to the second position in the points table at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday. Put in to bat, Prabhsimran Singh smashed a blistering 48-ball 91 and shared a 78-run stand with skipper Shreyas Iyer (45) to lay the foundation, before Nehal Wadhera (16), Shashank Singh (33) and Marcus Stoinis (15) chipped in to propel PBKS to an imposing 236 for five.

In reply, Ayush Badoni fought a lone battle with a valiant 40-ball 74 but lacked support from the other end as LSG were restricted to 199 for 7 in 20 overs, slumping to their sixth loss in 11 games. Arshdeep Singh (3/16) led the bowling charge for Punjab, while Azmatullah Omarzai (2/33) also chipped in with key wickets.

Brief Scores

Punjab Kings: 236 for five in 20 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 91, Shreyas Iyer 45; Akash Maharaj Singh 2/30).
