Suvendu Adhikari Alleges Nearly 3 Million Fake Beneficiaries, Triggers Political Clash

West Bengal’s welfare system has come under sharp political scrutiny after Suvendu Adhikari alleged that around 3 million beneficiaries under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme are fake. The claim has triggered a major political controversy, with questions raised over verification and transparency in the state’s welfare delivery system.The state government has also announced the rollout of the Annapurna Scheme, under which eligible women beneficiaries will receive Rs 3,000 per month. Authorities say the new scheme will include stricter verification and updated beneficiary data to remove ineligible entries and ensure proper targeting of welfare support.The debate has intensified as opposition leaders demand accountability while the government defends its welfare programmes, calling them essential for women’s financial security and social support across West Bengal.
