A massive fire ripped through the largest Jewish kosher supermarket in Golders Green, northwest London, early Wednesday morning, sending thick plumes of smoke into the area.
According to The Jerusalem Post, around 100 firefighters and up to 15 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which broke out shortly after 6:45 am BST in a three-storey building housing the supermarket, with residential flats above.
Residents told to keep windows shut
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the fire was producing a “significant amount of smoke” and advised residents nearby to keep their windows and doors closed as crews battled to bring the flames under control.
Emergency services also sealed off parts of Golders Green Road near Beverley Gardens, urging the public to avoid the area while operations continued.
Dozens of emergency calls received
According to LFB, firefighters received more than 50 emergency calls reporting the blaze. Crews from Finchley, Willesden, West Hampstead and nearby stations were rushed to the scene, along with a 32-metre turntable ladder.
Cause of fire not yet known
Authorities said the cause of the fire remains unclear and investigations will begin once the blaze is fully extinguished. No injuries have been reported so far.
Officials said firefighters were continuing efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining properties.
