... THE RUN CHASE ...
171 has been the average first-innings winning score at this venue in T20s since the start of the year, and Sri Lanka are not far off that mark. This is Bangladesh's first game in Dubai, and it will be interesting to see how quickly their batters adapt to the conditions. It is all set up for an intriguing chase. Back in a bit for the second essay.
Sri Lanka were 98 for 4 with six overs to go, searching for some impetus in their innings. Up stepped Dasun Shanaka to provide that much-needed boost. With support at the other end limited, he remained undeterred as he took on the pacers once the spinners had completed their overs. Sri Lanka managed 70 runs off the final six overs, though two of those overs yielded just 11 runs in total, thanks to Mustafizur Rahman, whose efforts helped Bangladesh keep Sri Lanka under 170.
A six off the final ball of the innings, but not quite the finish Sri Lanka would have hoped for. Just 15 runs came off the last two overs, leaving them to settle for 168 on the board. It certainly is a competitive total, but whether it proves to be a match-winning one remains to be seen. After being asked to bat first, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis gave Sri Lanka a brisk start. They managed to score 55 runs in the Powerplay despite Nissanka’s dismissal toward the end of it. Bangladesh struck back in the middle phase with a smart mix of spin and pace to apply the brakes on the scoring.
Taskin Ahmed to Dasun Shanaka, SIX! This time, Dasun Shanaka makes no mistake in reading the slower delivery! Taskin Ahmed bowls it on the shorter side, on off and middle. Shanaka opens his stance, winds up and pulls it with perfect timing. The ball sails over the deep square leg fence and he adds six more crucial runs on the board. Sri Lanka ends up putting 168 runs on the board!
Taskin Ahmed to Dasun Shanaka, Another dot from Taskin! Slower short delivery, just outside off. Dasun Shanaka once again goes for a big blow and gets beaten.
