NEW DELHI: India's prodigious talent
Prithvi Shaw began his international career in style, scoring a century on debut against the touring West Indies team in the first of the two-match Test series at the SCA stadium in Rajkot.
Shaw's 134 off 153 balls earned him the man-of-the-match award, making him only the sixth Indian to achieve the rare feat of winning the award on Test debut. At 18, Shaw also became the youngest Indian batsman, fourth overall, to score a debut hundred.

The Windies were bundled out for 181 and 196 inside three days, after India declared their first innings at 649/9, to suffer a humiliating an innings and 272 runs defeat, their second worst in the longest-format of the game.
The last Indian to win the MoM on debut was
Rohit Sharma, who scored 177 off 301 balls against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2013. In that match too, India went on to win the contest by a massive margin - an innings and 51 runs.

In 2006, left-arm pacer RP Singh made his Test debut against Pakistan in Faisalabad and was adjudged player of the match for taking four wickets for 89 runs and one for 75 in two innings. The high-scoring match though ended in a tame draw.
Off-spinner Ashwin also achieved the feat against the Windies, when he announced his arrival in the Test arena with a match haul of nine for 128 in 2011. Ashwin took 3/81 in the first innings and bettered it with a 6/47 figures in the second as India defeated the Caribbean side by five wickets.
Big-hitting India opener Dhawan made his Test entry with a bang, scoring the fastest debut hundred off 85 balls in 2013. Dhawan went on to score 187 off 174 balls against Australia in Mohali to help India win the match by six wickets.
