How To Capture Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds is filled with diverse wildlife, and one of the more elusive creatures you’ll need to capture is the Dapperwing. These colorful birds are part of the game’s Endemic Life and play a key role in Samin’s Research Report, a side quest that requires you to track one down. While they aren’t dangerous, spotting them in the wild can be tricky due to their ability to blend into their surroundings. If you're struggling to find a Dapperwing, this guide will help you locate and capture one with ease.

Where to Find a Dapperwing

Dapperwings are found in the Scarlet Forest, a dense and vibrant region teeming with wildlife. However, they aren’t always easy to see because their feathers change color depending on the season.

During the Fallow season, their green feathers allow them to blend with the trees, making them harder to spot.
During the Plenty season, they display a more vibrant, rainbow-like plumage, making them much easier to identify.

To maximize your chances of success, search for Dapperwings during daylight hours in the season of Plenty.

Best Locations to Find Dapperwings

If you don’t want to search the entire forest, head to these specific spots where Dapperwings are frequently seen:

• Ruins in Area 12 - A reliable spawn point where you can often find them perched on broken structures.
• Great Lake Shore in Area 17 - A ledge near the water where Dapperwings gather during the day.
• Once you spot a Dapperwing, you’ll need to act quickly before it flies away.

How to Capture a Dapperwing

Unlike monsters, you can’t hunt Dapperwings. Instead, you need to use a Capture Net. Here’s how:

• Equip the Capture Net from your quick-use menu.
• Aim carefully using LT (controller) or Right-Click (PC).
• Fire the net with RT (controller) or F (PC) when the crosshair turns orange (indicating you’re in range).

If the crosshair stays white, you need to get closer before firing. Once captured, the Dapperwing will be added to your collection, completing the quest.

After capturing a Dapperwing, return to Samin at the Windward Plains Base Camp to claim your rewards:

• 10x Blue Mushroom
• 5x Honey
