The Athletic reports Guardiola will sign a one-year extension to his current contract, which expires at the end of this season, with an option for another year. The 53-year-old manager has already signed two contract extensions during his time at City, both during the November international break.

Guardiola’s potential extension comes amidst a turbulent period for Manchester City. The club is facing an ongoing hearing over 115 breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations, leading to speculation about Guardiola's future. Adding to the uncertainty, City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, will leave the club at the end of the season.

Despite the challenges, keeping Guardiola would be a significant boost for the club. “The retention of one the most decorated coaches in football history would be a massive boost to the morale of City players and fans,” stated The Athletic.

Since joining Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has led the team to significant victories, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever Champions League title.
