NEW DELHI: While there is little or no clarity yet on the merger between I-League and
Indian Super League (
ISL
), the latter league, mooted as India's premier league by the
All India Football Federation
(
AIFF
), is now facing criticism from people within the league.
For
NorthEast United FC manager
Nelo Vingada
, the scheduling of the tournament is one thing that has not been done right. "We have played four games in a short time. This will be our fifth game in two weeks, while it is only the third game for Delhi. Usually, this does not happen in other leagues. We are not having equality between the teams. I would prefer the players to get more time for rest. I prefer all teams being in the same situation. But of course, we must follow the schedule. We will see how the players react after these games and how well they recover," said Vingada on the eve of his side's game against hosts
Delhi Dynamos
.
The 63-year-old manager from Portugal also does not get the point of playing six foreigners in a team of a league started to promote Indian football. "It should be seven locals and four foreigners. I understand foreigners and big names are important to bring people inside the stadium. But big names don't win you games. Spending big money does not mean success. Vingada has a solution for this: "There could be a rule stating that teams are not allowed to bring players over 35."
Delhi Dynamos manager
Gianluca Zambrotta
feels foreign players should not consider the ISL as a paid-holiday and must share their knowledge and experience with their Indian colleagues.
